Overall Access Rating
E Easy - Meets most or all existing and proposed accessibility guidelines.
The majority of mobility device users will find conditions easy.
M Moderate - Meets some existing and proposed accessibility guidelines. Conditions exist that may be difficult for some mobility device users, although improvements have been made to increase accessibility.
D Difficult - Does not meet existing and proposed accessibility guidelines. Conditions exist that will impede most mobility device users. Use caution.
Surface Material: An indication and description of the primary surface material for trails and access routes.
PV Pavement - Blacktop, macadam or concrete type surface. Ideal for mobility device users.
SD Crusher Fines/Stone Dust - Small fine material designed to compact over time to become a firm packed surface. Ideal for most mobility device users.
RB Rubble/Road Base - Crushed stone with stone dust also designed to bind together over time to form a firm surface. Larger aggregate than stone dust. Under certain conditions, suitable for mobility device users.
GV Gravel/Crushed Stone - A non binding loose aggregate surface. Difficult for mobility device users.
CS Compacted Soil - Conditions will vary according to soil types, erosion and weather. Some surfaces under ideal conditions may support mobility devices. Use caution.
Width: A measurement of the trail or route surface usable width measured perpendicular to the direction of travel. Measured with respect to minimum clearances near existing barriers and obstacles impeding the route of travel. Indications given for average, minimum and maximum width.
Grade (Running Slope): A measurement of the trail or route surface incline measured parallel to the direction of travel. Measured with respect to rise and run and expressed in units of percentage, i.e., 8% or as a proportion, i.e., 1:12. Indications given for average, minimum and maximum grade.
Cross Slope: A measurement of the trail or route surface incline measured perpendicular to the direction of travel. Measured with respect to rise and run and expressed in units of percentage, i.e., 2% or as a proportion, i.e., 1:48. Indications given for average, minimum and maximum cross slope. Note: A minimal amount of cross slope can greatly influence the maneuverability of a mobility device.
Obstacles: Obstacles are indicated as to their details and impact on the route of travel. Safety hazards and concerns are also noted.
